I’m 24 years old.
I’m standing on the platform with £200 in my pocket, a small backpack and a girl I love next to me.
I am about to embark on a journey to the other side of Europe, to the land famous for its elusive haggis and constant rain.
Im scared and excited at the same time.
I’m leaving behind everything I know; my friends, family, and native language.
Soon enough, when a new place’s novelty wears off, I face the hard reality: it won’t be easy.
My university diploma means nothing here, I cannot speak nor understand people, and I have to start from scratch, serving beer to the drunk football fans and attending tables. It was a challenging and humbling experience.
Fast forward 16 years, and I write these words from the comfort of an armchair in my house. I’m still with the same girl, my wife, now. We built a thriving fitness business in the Scottish capital and made new friends and life.
We are settled for good.
